FAQ

What plants work in these pots?

Almost any plant — houseplants like pothos and monstera, herbs like basil and rosemary, and more.

Here's how that works in practice:

  • Water-loving plants (peace lilies, ferns): refill the reservoir as soon as the indicator reads empty, so the plant always has access to water.
  • Water-sensitive plants (succulents, snake plants): once the indicator reads empty, wait 3–7 days before refilling so the soil can dry completely.

There's no single "right" way to use the planter. It gives you the visibility and control to adapt watering to whatever you're growing. You can use whatever medium you like: soil, leca, pon, or a mix.

One tip: pick a medium that matches your plant. A snake plant likes more air around the roots, so heavy, dense soil will keep it too wet; try something looser and airier instead.

Will this cause overwatering?

Overwatering is caused by excess water suffocating the roots, cutting off their oxygen supply and leading to root rot.

Wavyleaf planters are designed to maintain a nice balance of water and air, to help roots get the oxygen they need to avoid root rot. The inner pot has multiple vents along the bottom and sides to promote airflow to the roots.

If you're concerned about overwatering for water-sensitive plants, using an airy, well-draining medium will help excess moisture escape faster. You can also try filling the reservoir partway, or wait 3–7 days after the reservoir runs empty before refilling.

It's always worth understanding what your specific plant needs — once you know that, you can adjust both your medium and your refill timing to match.

What's included in the box?

Every planter comes with:

  • Outer self-watering pot with built-in water level indicator
  • Clear inner pot
  • Platform insert with nylon wick — for growing with soil
  • Mesh screen for fine particles — for soil-free materials like pon

How long does the water last?
Typically 2–4 weeks, depending on plant size, sunlight, humidity, and temperature. Larger plants and more sunlight means faster water consumption.
