How it works

How it works:

• Water is stored at the base of the planter in a reservoir.

• The inner pot sits in this reservoir, gradually drawing water up to the plant roots.

• As the water in the reservoir is depleted, the indicator will lower - showing you exactly how much water is left.

• When it hits the bottom, your plant is asking for a refill.

• We've designed it to ensure the growing material doesn’t get too wet, maintaining the right balance of water and air to create the ideal conditions for strong, healthy root growth.

Using with soil:
• We recommend using the platform insert and nylon wick with soil, for optimal water and air balance.

• Add your plant and soil into the clear pot, and add water to the outer pot.

• Water is wicked up through the nylon wick and into the soil. As the plant uses the water, the indicator on the front of the planter will gradually lower. Once it hits the bottom its time to refill the pot with water.

Using with semi-hydro:
• Our planters are also great for semi-hydro (soil-free) growing materials. Use with leca, lechuza pon, perlite or pumice.

• We recommend removing the platform insert when growing with these materials, for a better balance of water and air. The soil-free material will sit directly in the water reservoir and act as the wick.

• After planting the process is much like soil, but you'll need to add nutrients to the water since semi-hydro materials lack them.

Typical planters leave you guessing, like driving blind

Watering mistakes are the #1 cause of plant deaths, and it’s easy to see why. Most planters keep you in the dark.

Without a way to check how much water your plant has, you’re left guessing. It’s like driving a car without a gas gauge—you can manage for a while, but eventually you’ll make a mistake.

And if there’s a problem, like root rot, there’s no easy way to check “under the hood” to see what’s going on with your plant’s health.

Wavyleaf planters show you when your plant wants water

Each planter features an indicator that shows you exactly how much water your plant has.

The water is stored in a reservoir at the bottom of the pot, and as your plant drinks the indicator gradually lowers. When it hits the bottom, your plant is asking for a refill.

You’ll know exactly when to water, no guessing, no mistakes.

See what's happening below the surface

With ordinary planters, you have no idea what’s happening until it’s too late—roots are hidden and plant health issues sneak up on you.

Wavyleaf planters make everything visible, so you can catch problems early and take action before your plant shows stress.

Watch roots grow, monitor soil moisture, and prevent hidden issues like root rot.

How does it work?

Water is stored at the base of the planter in a reservoir.

The inner pot sits in this reservoir, gradually drawing water up to the plant roots.

As the water in the reservoir is depleted, the indicator will lower - showing you exactly how much water is left.

We've designed it to ensure the growing material doesn’t get too wet, maintaining the right balance of water and air to create the ideal conditions for strong, healthy root growth.

Complete clarity and confidence, however you grow

Grow with soil

We recommend using the platform and wick included in the planter for the best balance of water and air. The wick sits in the water reservoir and draws it up into the soil.

Semi-hydro (leca, pon or pumice)

We recommend removing the platform and wick, and fill the entirety of the inner pot with the soil-free material. The soil-free material will sit directly in the water reservoir, wicking it up to the roots.

FAQ

How long does it water for?

Wavyleaf planters feature an extra-large water reservoir, providing much longer watering intervals compared to most self-watering planters.

Watering typically lasts 1 to 3 weeks, perfect for long vacations or busy schedules.

What about plants that need a dry cycle?

The planters are designed to provide an ideal balance of water and air, but for very sensitive plants that require a completely dry cycle, simply wait 3–7 days after the indicator reads empty before refilling the reservoir. This ensures the growing material fully dries before the next watering.

What plants can grow in the planter?

Almost any plant can grow in a Wavyleaf planter. The planter is designed to be flexible, allowing you to tailor watering to your plant's needs.

Here are some examples of how you could use the planter for different plant’s needs:

Water loving plants: the reservoir can be refilled regularly so it never stays empty.

Water sensitive plants like succulents: can fill the reservoir halfway and, after the indicator shows empty, allow the growing material to dry out completely before refilling.

There’s no single way to use the planter—it gives you the clarity and control to adapt your care based on your plant's needs. You can grow houseplants, herbs, and veggies using the growing medium you prefer, whether it’s soil or soil-free options like leca, pon, or perlite.

If you’re wondering about a specific plant, feel free to email us—we’re happy to help!

Will this cause overwatering?

The reason overwatering kills plants is that excess water suffocates the roots, cutting off their oxygen supply and leading to root rot.

Wavyleaf planters are designed to maintain the perfect balance of water and air, ensuring roots get the oxygen they need to thrive. The inner pot is equipped with multiple vents along the bottom and sides to promote plenty of airflow to the roots.

Compared to regular planters, this added airflow creates ideal conditions for faster, healthier growth.

Beautiful, functional and solid

These pots are as beautiful as they look in all ads I've seen. They shipped in individual drawstring bags that protected them well during shipping and beyond. They could be given as gifts in these pretty bags. I had been reluctant to grow semi-hydro because it has been challenging to find any pots made for this growing method. Now they are here! These pots look fantastic and come in many useful sizes. I'm glad I bought these and they look like they will last for many years to come.
