Prefer a wick setup?
Keep the platform insert in, so the Leca sits above the water, and run a wick down into the reservoir. Here the wick sits in the water and carries it up to the Leca. The included wick is a thin string made for soil, so you'd add a thicker wick for Leca.

We recommend using the full depth of the inner pot. The inner pot comes with a platform insert and wick inside, which are designed for soil. For Leca, simply take them out and fill the inner pot with Leca. The Leca sits in the water and draws it up to the roots on its own. Want to use a wick setup instead? See the next question.
Yes, that works too. The planter comes with a platform insert and wick already inside the inner pot, but they're designed for soil, so the wick is too thin to bring up enough water for Leca. You'll need to add your own thicker wick (not included).
Yes. Unlike soil, Leca and pon don't contain any nutrients, so your plant gets its food from the water. Mix a hydroponic fertilizer into the water when you fill the reservoir.
- Rinse all the soil off the roots. Leftover soil can lead to root rot.
- Rinse your Leca (unless it's pre-rinsed), then soak it overnight so it's fully saturated.
- Fill the clear inner pot halfway with Leca and set the roots at that midpoint.
- Fill in around the roots with more Leca.
- Fill the outer pot with water and hydroponic nutrients up to the fill lines inside, then set the inner pot in.
5.4 in (13.7 cm) in the 4-inch planter and 7 in (17.8 cm) in the 6-inch, with the platform insert removed.
Yes. Like with Leca, we recommend removing the platform insert and filling the full depth of the inner pot. The one extra step for pon: use the included mesh screen to keep the fine particles inside the inner pot. A wick setup works with pon too. Just like with Leca, add your own thicker wick.
